SB Survivor Journal - Task Three Complete!

Dear Diary,

Mere words cannot convey the sheer suckage of this island.
I think Utopia ate one of her turtles...raw. *glurg*

I hurt my back, but I found that lying on the beach in the hot sun and sand makes it feel so much better, even though I've heard the others whispering about me just being lazy.

So, anyway, I finally was able to steal one of Rose's watermelons, which I desperately needed to complete this task...which was to carve a watermelon like you would carve a Halloween pumpkin, only it should have something to do with Shitty Blog Survivor.

I've never even carved a pumpkin.
And here on the island, tools (other than seashells) are scarce.

Speaking of seashells, the conch shell that Mango was pretending to use as an iPhone got broken when he dropped it on a tree stump.
He screamed something unintelligible as he brandished the broken pieces of shell at us, and we all had a good hearty laugh the moment his back was turned.

Anyway anyway anyway...I found an old rusty screwdriver (true story!) and a sharp piece of shell and set about attempting to carve my stolen watermelon...

Watermelon & Mango

Okay, so I couldn't figure out how to set the date on this cheap-ass camera.

Melon Mask

After I eat all the watermelon, I plan to wear this at night & sneak up on the others, jumping out at them from behind trees and such in hopes that I can make someone pee their pants. Because cool.

PLUS I found THIS:

Mango Mask

Evidently Mango's been trying to fit in a little more closely with cannibals...I can only hope he gets eaten up soon.

YummyMango

And a final message for Jeckles:

A personal message

Arrgh, how am I ever going to continue to survive on this island??
Help me. Please, help me.

Love,
Me

Sometimes inappropriate things are the funniest.

Okay, this video is just...wrong.
Didn't stop me from laughing like a moron, though.
The "I'm gonna smack you!" had me in tears.

The outtakes were pretty cute, too.

Don't forget to tune in TONIGHT at 10pm CENTRAL for an hour of classical, jazz, and easy listening. If you're lucky, I'll play Muskrat Love for you. Again. :D

Going down in flames

I jumped the line in a funeral procession.
I'm pretty sure I'll be going to hell for that.

In my defense, it was a total accident. See, I was on the highway and I was in the far right lane, and the traffic was moving pretty slowly. I moved to the middle lane to get around the traffic (and MAN it was a looooooooong line), and then BOOM! there was my exit & I had to get over, so I cut in front of a slow moving old guy.
It was a gray sort of day, so I didn't think twice over the fact that he had his headlights on.

Then I got to the exit, and everyone was going right through the red light...with the aid of two motorcycle cops.

Whoops.

So I did what anyone would do...I stayed in the procession to avoid drawing attention to myself, right up until I was near my work and I found a side street down which I made a quick (and hopefully unobtrusive) turn.

I'm such an asshole.

and now, a big mess of crap:

I'd like to have a man who would dance with me in the living room.

And a man who can't get me out of his mind.

Naturally, I'd prefer it if they happened to be the same man, but at this stage of the game I can't be too picky.

I keep typing the word as 'blogSOT' today.
I think that means I need a drink.

My Grandma: "I'm so tired, I feel half-dead. I'm not worth anything."
ME: "I wouldn't say you're not worth anything. You've got big life insurance policies, right?"

I have no idea why my grandma doesn't like me.

I was chatting with my friend the other night and I wondered why all those people who have 'near-death' experiences talk about seeing the white light or their loved ones who've already died...evidently none of them have ever seen demons nor felt the heat of hellfire.
Is it because those guys don't get to come back from the 'near death'?
Or is it that they're too scared to say anything?
I was just wondering.

We have so many words in the English language...why do revolting and revolting have such different meanings?

Why am I even thinking about that?

"The time has come," the Walrus said, "to talk of other things..." *sticky note, scroll down for new stuff*

Things such as...
Give us your money. Well, PLEDGE to give us your money, anyway.

BLOGATHON time approacheth--July 28th, to be exact.

That means it's time to empty those piggy banks, check under the sofa cushions, & give 'til it hurts.
Even if the pain starts at $5.00. Or $10.00. Or whatever you can afford to give.

It's not for me, no no no. This year, as last year, I'll be blogging for 24 hours straight--at 30 minute intervals--to raise $$ for United Cerebral Palsy.
In case you didn't know, that's one of the disabilities from which my son suffers.

I've already asked for your Opening Lines, and I could use more. So feel free to WOW me with your creativity (as I have none of my own).

Also, I have already offered up some bribes...and you know I NEVER EVER welsh. Right, Jeckles?

Pledges are being accepted now! Head on over to the Blogathon site and look for me on the BLOG LIST. Sponsor my ass.

Thank you. I love you. Pass it on.

SBC Survivor Journal--Day ????

"Why do you play stupid?"
"Because it's good cover for when I am stupid."

Dear Diary,

I've heard it being whispered around (behind my back, the dirty cowards) that I'm going crazy. The bumblebee said it to the coconut.

I'm SO NOT.

But some of these people are starting to really piss me off...like that rat bastard Mango.
Yeah, right, talk about crazy! He prances around with a conch shell pressed to his ear, telling us to shut up because he's talking on his fancy new iPhone.
(Then why doesn't he call for HELP, the jackass!)
Plus he made some disparaging remarks about Oklahomans...perhaps he forgot that THREE of the girls on this island (including myself) are Okies and we could totally beat the shit out of him and grind his bones to make our bread.

Mmm.....bread.

....
....
....
....
....

Oh, sorry, where was I?
Oh yeah, watermelons.
The next task is some ritualistic watermelon carving...I think Rose has found a stash of watermelons and she's trying to hide them under her shirt--she says that she's not hiding anything, her boobs just grew bigger due to the fresh air and saltwater.
If that's what it takes, how come mine aren't any bigger?

Speaking of saltwater, some of these people could benefit from a dip in the ocean, if you get what I mean. They're getting a little...ripe. *gag* It's what I imagine it would smell like if I visited a cave full of Sasquatch(es?).

And I'm a little bit pissed at Jeckles for voting off Mike in the last round, because he was THE ONLY SINGLE MAN here on this godforsaken island. I was planning to use him for sex. And, you know, to carry the heavy stuff. And do my tasks for me. Now THAT'S screwed. Thanks a heap.

Utopia's on a rampage about something or other--I hear the words 'sneak' and 'thief' and 'bagels' a lot...I've learned to tune her out & watch my back at the same time. Yummy's been quiet...TOO quiet. I find that frightening on many levels.

Tammy and Nat still seem to be handling things okay, but I don't trust them. They have sly, sneaky faces sometimes. I'm going to have to watch out for them.

I almost forgot about Chad, because he's been so quiet and unmoving in his little trench thingy. He might possibly be dead (judging from the smell), but I'm sure as hell not going to go over there and check.

Now I have to go tail Rose to see where those watermelons are coming from...

Love,
Me

My future husband. AFTER I marry and divorce Craig Ferguson.

*dreamy sigh*
I love you, Captain Tightpants

How lucky can a girl get?

I've seen that pretty pink button around, but I didn't expect to find it here! But there you go, courtesy of two REALLY rockin' girl bloggers, Heather and Finn. To me, what makes this special is the giver(s).

Heather and I have often remarked that we share a brain; we're like two halves of a whole. Our minds seem to run parallel, and our wavelengths match more often than not. You know those stories about twins separated at birth, who grow up and have done all the same things and lived close to the same lives, without ever knowing each other? Yeah, we're kind of like that, only not in a creepy way. I love Heather. You will too, once you get to know her; she's much nicer than me.

And Finn? Oh, Finn. Were I man I would sweep her away into a torrid affair in some romantic setting, and I would have her write stories for me all day long and I would feed her grapes and wine. Beauty, incredible talent...an artist. I love Finn too.

It's always amazing to me--flattering too, yes--when one of these strong, fabulous, talented women offer an award to me...I feel like I'm in a different league (the MINOR minors, or something...what's below the farm team? Because that's the one I'm on). So thank you, thank you, Heather and Finn.

Now, evidently I'm to pass the pink rockin' torch to five others...this part always scares me, because I have to leave people out and I don't like to do that.
But away we go...
(I should note that I tried not to make any duplications)

*and you, yes YOU...you know who you are. I know you hate made-up awards, but I like them so SHUT UP and don't Steal My Sunshine. I say that with love. xoxox

Golfwidow. Her place is called The Ministry Of Silly Walks, and I am, after all, MONTY...how could we NOT go together like peas and carrots? Golfwidow makes me laugh all the time-more often than almost anyone, I think...and did I mention that she's got a great great podcast? No? Consider it mentioned. You're missing out if you don't visit Golfwidow.

Janet. Oooh, I'm a long-time fan of Janet's...she's one of the teacher-people that I wish my daughter could have as head of her class. She's clever, she knows more 80s trivia than even me (and believe me when I say that's somethin'), and she's funny too.
(you may begin to detect a pattern here with the funny stuff)
No schoolmarm she, but a dedicated, smart, multi-faceted woman.

Raehan. A long time staple of mine. Oooh, I love Rae with a deep and abiding passion. She's so many things I'm not...like cool and smooth and a great writer and brilliant and accomplished and many many many other things. Her writing style is like...cream and silk. I don't know how else to describe it. She's fabulous. FABULOUS. In my mind she's always the calmest and steadiest--I would want her with me in a crisis. Or just when I'm scared of the dark.

Thumper. OH, do I love Thumper. She REALLY rocks. Have I mentioned that she's PUBLISHED? And her books are MOST EXCELLENT? She's got such a sense of humor--sometimes it sneaks up on you & catches you off guard, so that you get those sneaky little laughs that bubble out unexpectedly. Thumper is strong and talented, and just an all around amazing gal. Her cats are pretty damn smart, too.

IcePrincezz. Another with whom I share a brain. I've just realized that that only leaves me with a third of a brain...oh well, probably more than I'll ever use anyway. I love IcePrincezz for many reasons--even though I wish she'd UPDATE HER DAMN BLOG MORE OFTEN. I guess I'm hoping this will sort of guilt her into it. Iceprincezz is...you know how sometimes you meet someone and hear that "CLICK" and you feel like you've known them forever and ever? Yeah, that's how it is with her. I treat her worse than family, and I like her ever so much better than them too. Plus she owns Empire Radio (and therefore my shows), so I have to be sort of a suck up. :D (just kiddin', you know I adore the pants off you!)

What are you people still doing here? Didn't I just give you five new rockin' girl bloggers to discover? Shoo!

That is all.
Have a day.

Mother Talk Blog Tour: 24-Hour Pharmacy

Is it wrong that my first thought upon receiving this was "Yay, FREE BOOK!"?
For the Mother Talk Blog Tour, I signed up to read The 24-Hour Pharmacist by Suzy Cohen, R.Ph. I was a little intimidated at first...but Dr. Suzy has made this easy to read, easy to understand, and even entertaining.

It's not intended to replace visits to your doctor--there are plenty of warnings about that very thing. But one of the nicest things is that it helps you identify individual symptoms and what you can do about them--withOUT just adding another prescription drug.

Just adjusting your diet the smallest bit and different vitamins can make a big difference in reducing fatigue and stress, mood swings, and just making you healthier all around.

I had NO idea that apple-cider vinegar was good for so many things...including dandruff. And snoring.
Don't like veggies? Did you know you can drink your greens?
Learn how easy it is to treat:
PMS
Bloating
Heartburn
Insomnia

Help soothe your anxieties, lessen your hot flashes, and relax. Boost your mood, improve your circulation, rev your sex drive, and a thousand other tips to improve your quality of life.

The first chapter grabbed me right away, because I thought "That's me! And THAT'S me! And THAT'S me too!"
I wrote notes. I dog-eared pages. I even...highlighted. Yes, yes I did.
I'm a bit of a skeptic, so naturally I had to get some vitamins & give 'em a try.
Figured I'd start slow with Fish Oil & a Super B-Complex.

Surprisingly (to me, anyway), I'm feeling more energetic in the mornings--and getting up a little earlier too--instead of my usual lethargy, even after just a few days. Now, if I could just remember what herbs and foods may help improve my memory...

I love Suzy Cohen and the 24-Hour Pharmacist. One of the other great things is that she included information on where you'd most likely find certain things-health food stores, drugstores-and even more importantly, the cost range.

You should buy two copies of this book...one for you, one for the friend or relative with the menopause. Or one for you and one for the friend or relative who's tired and cranky all the time. Or one for anyone in your life that you want to help be healthier.

Plenty of information to keep you healthy, right at your fingertips.
Now, I'm off to try something for these mood swings...

Three things. Well, four. Four things. I think.

1. Do me a favor? Run on over to my dearest darling pal DEBI's and wish her a very very very very Happy Birthday, won't you? (Yes, with exactly that number of verys)

2. You remember THIS SITE that I told you about, where I can watch Buffy and Dead Like Me and Firefly and Fawlty Towers and The Vicar Of Dibley and SO SO SO MUCH MORE??

They just added........21 Jump Street!!
Three words:
Young. Johnny. Depp.

3. If you missed Friday's show, you can listen to the podcast now. Do it.
(and tune in tonight at 10pm Central for an hour of classical, jazz, easy listening...and me)

4. Sometimes the silence is so fucking loud.

Flotsam & Jetsam

Don't forget to tune in tonight at 9pm Central (7pm Pacific, 10pm EST)
for FRIDAY NIGHT LIVE with MONTY!

The chat room will be open!
C'mon, you know you've got nothing better to do.

I have calluses between my big toes and the second toes due to excessive flip-floppery.

Speaking of flip-flops, they are really not the ideal footwear when it's been raining for more than two weeks straight and the wooden steps are slicker than snot.
Is all I'm saying.

I wonder how I'd look with dreds?
Because I'm considering it.

I don't like anyone today, because they're breathing my valuable oxygen.

Well, except I like you, I mean.

That is all.
Come listen to the show.
Have a day.

Well, SOMEONE appreciates me.

I got an email today that said
"The reason I really enjoy your blog is that you write in such a conversational style, without every word having to be oh-so-thoughtful and filled with pretty flowing phrases that are no doubt 'borrowed' from something read somewhere else."

Dear New Friend,
Thank you for the utterly lovely compliment. And it's true, I am neither thoughtful nor do I know very many pretty phrases.
Do come visit anytime, and you don't even need to call first.
Love,
Me

Yes, I'm totally easy and can be had for a compliment. You don't even have to buy me dinner first.

SBC SURVIVOR. And other junk.

Dear Diary, So the next Survivor task is due Tuesday...I think I'm ready. The task is: Describe your stay on Survivor Island so far, using ONLY PICTURES. No captions, no narrative. *teehee* I'm cleverer than they think...I found a way around the 'no captions' rule...a person would just have to put their tiny little hand over the pictures for a few seconds...and 'thought bubbles' don't count, do they? I don't think so. Anyways, cheating is a time-honored SBC tradition. Or if it isn't, it should be. Wish me luck (again!) Love, Me
in other news... No show tonight for me--I promised the kids a drive-in movie. I'll be back on Wednesday at 11pm EST with an hour of classical, jazzy, & easy listening RIGHT HERE!
That is all. Have a Sunday.

SBC SURVIVOR Journal: Who survived the first cut

Dear Diary,

Well, there we all were, crowded around Utopia's little homemade radio so that we could listen to Shitty Blog Radio to see who was going to be the first voted off our little island.

I was only half-hoping it was me, because...well, you know I don't really like to be around people. Plus I'm thirsty as hell. But I managed to dodge the bullet on this first go-round, much to the dismay of some of the others.
HAHAHAHAHA! EAT THAT, BITCHES!

So here's the new Survivor lineup:
Me, natch.
Utopia
Yummy
Mango
Chad
Rose
Nat
Tammy
Mike
Sparky

Evidently the outside judges that Jeckles brought in hated most of our slogan submissions for task one. I don't care that they hated mine, as long as they hated someone else's more.

And now..TASK NUMBER TWO:

We must tell the story of our time thus far on Shitty Blog Island...with pictures--no words. I'm looking forward to the task, except that we've been expressly forbidden to caption the pictures. If anyone gets confused by the pictures, they'll just have to read my Survivor Journal entries and follow along.

Man, I'm tired--it's been a long day avoiding falling coconuts and trying to start a fire with the lenses of my glasses. Plus it looks like a storm's a-brewin'.
I'll get back with you later, my one friend, my diary.

Love,
Me

HURRY HURRY!

Come and mellow out with me tonight at 11pm EST, 10pm Central...

I'll tuck you in with an hour of classical, jazz, and easy listening.

It's all right here, on MPYR Radio.

Come on in and chat, too.

Got that right, dudes.

Shitty Blog Survivor Journal, Task 1 (for real this time)

Dear Diary,

This sucks.

Man, it's hot as hell on this island and people are starting to get a little wiggy. As I mentioned in my letter to Jeckles...Tammy has taken to living in the tree-tops and dropping coconuts upon the heads of the unwary who walk beneath her trees, Nat shoots me the bird and says "NYAH NYAH NYAH" every time I get near her, and I haven't seen Chad or Mike in days--Mango is looking well-satisfied and rather...plumpish, so I'm afraid he might have eaten them. Plus I think Rose spit in my cookie, even though she says she didn't. But it tastes funny.

Yummy was talking about swimming to a neighboring island but she wasn't sure if the fins in the water were dolphins or sharks. I'm certain they're sharks, but I think I've just about got her convinced that they're cute, friendly dolphins. MUAHAHAHAH!

Sparky is smoking some weird grass he pulled up near the beach, and if I sit too close to him whilst he's smoking I get all giggly and stuff and then I want to eat raw fish. Utopia and Mango are doing some "Evil Genius" plotting thing...I see them sneering at the rest of us from time to time. Also they're drinking coconut liqueur as they sit in the turtle-powered hot tub, which might make it worth sucking up to them.

Anyway. So far I'm attempting to be relatively nice to these freaks people, because you never know when one of them may be useful. Since most of you know how much I dislike people in general, you can understand how difficult that is for me.

Still so thirsty...

In my dehydration-induced delirium, I thought last week was the deadline for task one...and I was wrong. I further thought that I'd come up with my final answer for the task...and once again I was wrong.

I know, right? Wrong twice in one day? I can only claim to have been influenced by the pills I took from Mango's man-purse.

I think this time I've got it, though.

Shitty Blogs Club: "Stinking up online communities since 2003"

Shitty Blogs Club: "It's not that we don't give a crap....well, actually...it is."

And that's my final final answer. Fo' reals yo.

Now all that remains is to listen to Shitty Blog Radio on Thursday at 10pm EST for the results.

Love,
Me

Let's Celebrate

but first...
Tune in to my show tonight on MPYR Radio for an hour of classical, jazz, and easy listening. I'm feeling me foin Irish roots tonight, so we'll have some Celtic music as well.
Be there. 11pm EST.

HAPPY FATHER'S DAY to all my favorite daddies out there.
I am lucky enough to have TWO dads.
So...

Dear Bio-dad,

Thanks for your part in creating me. Even though you & mom got divorced when I was 18 months old and I didn't see you more than 7 or 8 times between then and my 18th year...I don't hold that against you. I know you've been married a BUNCH of times--I probably don't even know about all of them, since you do not talk about your past. At all. Ever. That's okay.
I know that you're still afflicted with itchy feet that make it impossible for you to settle in one place, as evidenced by the fact that in the last five years you've moved no less than ELEVEN times.
But we have a good relationship now...and you & stepmom have been married for 19 years. We see each other frequently, we're pretty darn close considering, and I'm very glad that we have each other.
So, thanks for everything. I love you.

Love,
Me

Dear Dad-who-adopted-me-when-you-and-mom-got-married,

Thanks for being my Daddy. You know what I remember about your wedding to my mom? Your cousin Joe. I loved him so much, with all of my five-year-old heart. I remember running up to give him a hug and a kiss first thing. Your family STILL teases me about that...and I remember that for years and years Joe was the man to which other boys had to measure up. Maybe because he's a lot like you.
You spanked me. You grounded me. You yelled at me.
You coached me for 8 years in basketball and softball.
You came to school plays, you traveled with my ball teams, you paid for all the stuff that went along with that. You were at my dance recitals that one year I took ballet and tap.
You drove me where I needed to go...you taught me to drive. You weren't my creator, but you were, and are, my Daddy.
In case I forgot to tell you...thanks for everything. I love you.

Love,
Me

Mother Talk Blog Bonanza Friday!

It is time once again for a Mother Talk Blog Bonanza!
Our topic this week is brought to us courtesy of Elizabeth Pantley's book, The No-Cry Discipline Solution. Before I start, two things:
1. This is not a book review; I have not read it other than a few excerpts.
2. You may disagree with my parenting methods--and that's fine. Whatever works for you is what you should do...but take note of whether or not your method is actually working. Is all I'm saying.

Aaah, child discipline...a touchy subject in most circles. In my day, my great-grandma told me to go pick a switch and it didn't even raise any eyebrows. She laid the stick across my backside a few times--it taught me the value of not picking the whippiest, thinnest, lightest one.
My dad was a spanker. Don't get me wrong--I wasn't beaten, I didn't get spanked for every infraction, nothing like that. I can't even put the blame on him for my punishment, because I knew the rules.
I knew that if he said, "If you torment your brother one more time, I'm gonna bust your butt,", then I knew that it wasn't an idle threat; if I got caught didn't stop tormenting my brother, I was going to get it.
Always the same formula: "GO BEND OVER THE BED."
And I had to wait.
And wait.
And wait.
Like the song says, the waiting is the hardest part. I didn't realize until I was much older that this was Dad's cool-down time. How he took the time to get his temper under control.
And after the spanking...the 'talk'. The "this hurt me more than it hurt you" talk. Yeah. I know that some of you get what I'm talking about.
And my grandpa? Hm. Tough old guy. Smack-talk him and you got his big, hard, working-man's hand upside the back of your head. Nosirree, you didn't sass grandpa. Not more than once or twice, anyway.
When I was a teen, some of my friends thought my parents were too strict because if I was five minutes late on my curfew, I was grounded.
Five minutes. Unless, you know, I called first and if I did then I'd better have a damn good excuse that wasn't a lie, because they'd know.
I never really thought it was too strict, because my mom & dad put it to me like this: If you're responsible and adult enough to go out with your friends/date/whatever, then you're responsible and adult enough to get home on time.
I can only think of maybe one occasion that I was late with no excuse.
Because I came home on time, my parents gave me their trust. That's still very important to me.

And you know what else? I didn't turn out so bad. I don't do drugs, I never snuck out of my room in the middle of the night, I didn't get drunk at parties.
My parents taught me not only to respect them, but self-respect as well.
Oh hell, I wasn't perfect by any stretch of the imagination--I was (and am) bullheaded and stubborn, especially when I know think I'm in the right. I've argued with my parents, I talked back occasionally. But I didn't cut class & ditch school (except Senior ditch day, and we all went to the lake together), I didn't rebel. I just tried to be a decent kid and stay out of trouble. Getting in trouble was, and is, embarrassing for me.

So I figure what worked on me would most probably work for me as well.
I'm a spanker. Yep, there, I said it. So what?
If I think what my child has done deserves a spanking, and if I've given her a warning that if she continues that behavior then a spanking is forthcoming, AND further if she DOES CHOOSE to continue the behavior..
"Bend over the bed."
And she waits.
And waits.
And waits.
Until I get my cool-down time. And then afterward she gets 'the talk'.

And you know what else? I'd put my kid up against any other kid on the planet.
She's polite, she's a better hostess than I ever could be (and where she learned that I've got NO idea), she's smart, she's caring about others, she's innately kind and always generous. She always offers me (and anyone else who might be near) the last...the last M&M, the last bite of a PB&J, the last drink of juice. She's even got a social conscience, worried about kids who don't have homes or don't have enough to eat. She takes care of pets and strays.
I can't take all the credit for that--I've just been lucky enough to be blessed with fabulous children.

I've been criticized for being too strict...but as a single parent I have to be the good cop AND the bad cop. And I realized early on that without a backup parent, things could easily spiral out of control and I decided that I'd be damned if I let that happen.

I don't want to be my daughter's best friend. As I've said before, that only works for Gilmore Girls. Ask Kathy Hilton and Dinah Lohan how it's working out for them and their daughters, mmkay?
In my opinion, that's where parents sometimes go wrong and then wonder "How did this happen?"
If you let your kids hit each other, yell at each other, call each other names...you're teaching them that this is acceptable behavior.
If you don't hold the line, stand firm, and FOLLOW THROUGH with punishments/corrections/whatever you want to call them, you're teaching the children that you really don't mean what they say.
I've seen books from big-head-free-thinkers who encourage you to let children find their own way without any discipline, without teaching them that some things are wrong...thus depriving them of developing a conscience.
So we're raising a generation of sociopaths? Is that what we really want to do?
All these entitled kids who feel like the whole world owes them something, just because they grace the earth with their lives.
Kids who think mom & dad should buy them a car as soon as they're old enough to drive, because the parents OWE it to them.
Kids who think mom & dad should give them anything and everything they ask for...because that's how the parents have raised them to behave.

Oh sure, we all think our children are the centers of our own little universes, and I think it's INCREDIBLY important that we let kids know from the instant they're born how much we love them, how terrific they are, how beautiful/handsome/smart/special they are. I tell mine all the time--just about every single day, in fact.
But giving them everything they want without teaching them that some things must be earned? Giving in to their every whim? Letting them start and quit projects and classes and whatever?
You're teaching them that it's acceptable not to follow through. You're as much as telling them that "Mommy and Daddy will always rescue you from everything and you'll never have to deal with anything yourself. You don't have to finish what you start if it's too hard!! There there, poor baby!"
You're teaching them irresponsibility. You're robbing them of the sense of accomplishment that comes from finishing a task or completing a project or just following through.

Now I'm all for positive reinforcement...but there comes a time when a child has to understand what is NOT acceptable behavior. They have to learn that THEIR choices affect other people. My daughter knows that if she chooses to ignore the rules and chooses to behave badly, she alone is responsible for the fact that she is punished/corrected.

In the excerpts of this book, many suggestions are offered on how to avoid the conflict in the first place, thus avoiding having to discipline. I can't disagree with that! But sometimes conflict IS unavoidable, and we need to pull our parental heads out of the sand and realize that.

One particular piece of the book said that children do not whine and cry and throw temper tantrums to get back at you or manipulate you, they do it because they're being children.
To that I say that some studies suggest that children start developing the knowledge between right and wrong, the lines between acceptable & unacceptable behavior at around 3 years old.
After that? Yeah, I'd have to say manipulation IS definitely a factor. If your kid is 7 or 8 and still tantruming and you're STILL giving in just to shut them up--wake up Mom & Dad, they've got you pegged.

Around my house we ALWAYS say "I love you", even when we're angry with one another. I always thank my daughter and tell her how much I appreciate her help, and I truly mean it and she knows that. Her twin brother is severely disabled and she is a GREAT help to me. I try not to burden her with too much responsibility regarding her brother, but she takes it upon herself and what's more, seems to enjoy helping.
She's already got a good work ethic. She is aware of the value of trust. She's giving and affectionate.
She also argues if she thinks she's right, and can be stubborn about it. At least I know where THAT part comes from.

Kids need structure, they need boundaries, and they need for their parents to patrol those boundaries endlessly. They need you to follow through on the things you say, whether it's "We'll go to the park tomorrow" or "If you do that one more time I will (fill in the blank)".
Otherwise, you're not doing yourself OR your kid any favors.

Be a parent. Your kids have enough friends.

Bits and pieces

Sometimes I like to stare at the TV with the sound off. Especially when Oprah is on.
Sometimes I try to read their lips.
Sometimes I make up the conversations in my head.

I had a semi-sexual* dream about this guy last night.
Yum.
Is all I'm saying.

*only semi because unfortunately I woke up at an inopportune moment. Dammit.

And plus? He's in two of my favorite Joss Whedon shows...Buffy and Firefly.

My current favorite song lyrics:
2 AM and I'm still awake, writing a song
If I get it all down on paper, it's no longer inside of me,
Threatening the life it belongs to
And I feel like I'm naked in front of the crowd
Cause these words are my diary, screaming out loud
And I know that you'll use them, however you want to

But you can't jump the track, we're like cars on a cable,
And life's like an hourglass, glued to the table
No one can find the rewind button now
Sing it if you understand.
and breathe, just breathe...

Oh yeah, I almost forgot one more thing...

Come & mellow out with me tonight at 11pm EST right here:

Relax & unwind with an hour of classical, jazz, and easy listening.
Oh, just do it. For me? Please?

That is all.
Have a day.

WTF?

Two favorite men.
One movie.
1408*.
Yeah.

*based on a short story of the same name in Everything's Eventual**

**One story contained therein caused me to say "EEEEEEEEEEeeeeEEEEE" for months, just for fun. Sometimes I still do.

So I'm behind this car on the highway yesterday, and this is the vanity plate:

SMNSPCL

Okay, the only thing I can come up with is Semen Special. And ew.
Well, I guess there is one other thing...Seamen Special. And I don't think that that's any better.
And if that's something they serve at a restaurant, I sure as hell don't want to eat there.

***update: Maybe it's SIMONS PICKLE?
No. Surely not.

Sometimes you just have to say...WTF??

Monday, June 11, 2007

Oh Paris. Just stop talking. It gets you in trouble.

It's like a trainwreck--I can't look away no matter how much I want to.
I'm sick.

Paris called Barbara Walters. Reportedly...
"During the collect call Hilton described her first days in jail as "a horrible experience," telling Walters, 'I was not eating or sleeping. I was severely depressed and felt as if I was in a cage.'"
Um, yeah, really? I think CAGE is the whole point.

"According to ABC News, Hilton told Walters that her attitude has changed. 'I used to act dumb,' she said. 'That act is no longer cute. Now, I would like to make a difference. God has given me this new chance.'"
It was an act? Gee, you should have let us know that it wasn't real.
And seriously, I don't think it was ever cute. And how nice that behind bars, you've found religion.

Someone stop me. Please. I need help.

Survivor Journal: Task 1 deadline approacheth

Dear Diary,

Guess what? I've got my first task! YES. But I only have until noon on Tuesday to complete it...ah well, I work better under pressure anyways. Got to think of a new slogan for the Shitty Blogs Club, probably just because that bastard Jeckles is too lazy to think up one himself.

So anyway, things are about what I expected here on the island so far. Nat is being a beyotch and won't roast the goat like I told her to, so we're making do with coconuts for the moment. And bonus: I found a weird man purse thing over in the bushes. It reeks to high heaven of vomit and alcohol; unfortunately all the little booze bottles appear to be smashed. But SCORE! There's an assload of pills in all sizes & shapes inside--I'm sure I can figure out some use for 'em.
Maybe I can use them to get Mike to do my bidding...hmm. I'll think on that.

We really need to lay in some supplies, but I'm surrounded by wusses who probably couldn't find their asses with both hands, a map, and a flashlight.
I wonder if I could trick Professor Utopia into finding some water that we can boil.

So thirsty....

ideas:
Shitty Blogs Club: We're the shiznit
SBC: Crapped Out
SBC: Now with more cowbell

Dammit. This is hard.

WAIT! It's perfect: Shitty Blogs Club: We don't need no steenkin' slogan!

It conveys just the right amount of contempt and slackerism.
Damn, I'm good.

I'll just have to listen to Shitty Blog Radio on Thursday at 10pm EST to find out who gets voted off.

Now....I wonder how I'm s'posed to get this entry to Jeckles? I guess I should go look for a bottle, or maybe spell it out in wood on the beach in case he's in a 'copter or something...

Love,
Me

Nocturne

AND NOW FOR SOMETHING COMPLETELY DIFFERENT...
New show, starting tonight!
Every Sunday & Wednesday at 11pm EASTERN...

Mellow out with me and an hour of classical, jazz, and easy listening.
Nina Simone & Harry Connick Jr, Miles Davis & Thelonius Monk, Mozart and Haydn, Streisand and Sade...

5. Hot sun/coooooool breeze combo
6. Firemen taking advantage of #s 4 & 5--washing the trucks and playing volleyball

Yeah.

In other news...

If you don't show up, I might start to think that you don't like me.

Survivor Journal, to be read in the event of my death

Dear Diary,

Jeckles has just informed us that our first task will be given to us on Saturday! I can't wait. As reigning Sole Survivor from last year, I've got to really be on my toes as I know those sneaky bastards other people will totally be out to get me. I can already hear them muttering behind my back as we wait to begin.
Here's the "competition" (hahaha, yeah, I know, right?):
Utopia
Sparky
YummY!
Chad
Tammy
Rose
Mango
Mike
Nat

I'll have to listen EVERY THURSDAY at 10pm EASTERN to Shitty Blog Radio (there are links for RealPlayer & QuickTime on the sidebar) for the updates, as well as visit the Shitty Blog Forums to psych out my opponents.

Okay Diary, wish me luck!
Love,
Me

Personal and Confidential

Dear Sylvester Stallone,

I saw your interview with EXTRA today, and I wanted to mention a couple of things:

1. The botox and eyebrow waxing? Not doing you any favors. You might want to rethink that.

2. The movie Rocky Balboa? Bad idea.
The new John Rambo movie you're filming? Worse idea.
Worse even than Oscar and STOP! Or My Mom Will Shoot.

Is all I'm saying.

Sincerely,
A concerned fan-that-was, right up through Copland (which, by the way, was brilliant work on your part)

BOOBIES AND BEER!!

Hahaha, that's twice I've fooled you with that title just to grab your attention.
Hell, it grabbed MY attention when I was digging the archives, and I'm the one who wrote it.

and I ran across this in my archives too:

How do we know the sailors aren't really saying, "I eye, Captain!"??

Speaking of Captains...my new favorite picture:

Oh yeah, one more thing:

You don't want to forget to download the Nekkid Broadcast!

Saturday, June 02, 2007

Totally creeped.

So get this:
I ran across my ex-husband on MySpace today-apparently that six degrees of separation thing really works.

You have absolutely no idea what kind of restraint I exercised when I denied myself the pleasure of posting a comment: "So, do you still get drunker'n Cooter Brown and beat up your wives?"

Because it was tough.
But he's fat and not handsome anymore, which was very cool.

I'm not bitter.
:)

Friday, June 01, 2007

You're late! You're late! For a very important date...

Come on! What are you waiting for?
It's NEKKID BROADCAST DAY!

9pm Central time! RIGHT NOW!

Come on in and chat!

Meme for Youyou. Yeah, like you care.

The darling MommaK in a low-down and dirty move tagged me with the Eight Random Things meme...

* Each player starts with eight random facts/habits.
* People who are tagged need to write posts on their own blog about their eight things and post these rules.
* At the end of your blog, you need to choose eight people to get tagged and list their names I'm sorry, I'm unable to comply. I don't need the hate mail. If you choose to pick up the tag for yourself, please leave me a comment so that I may come and admire your work.

My first thought was, "Oh dear, how will I ever narrow it down to only eight?
Then I remembered that I've already told you most of my weird and/or quirky and/or random habits, so I'll have to think about it.

1. I love the smell of Bactine. I love it.

2. Whenever I re-read any of Stephen King's "The Dark Tower" series, I speak like Roland for awhile. Thankee-sai, say thankya, popkin (sandwich), astin (aspirin)...I can't help it.

3. Sometimes I am hopelessly naive about...well everything. Mostly people's motivations & characters.

4. The older I get, the less tolerance I have for people. I'm more likely to call them to the carpet now, whereas 10 or 15 years ago I would've let things slide.

5. I am not one of those people who blogs because of a need to write. I only blog to empty out my head so it can refill with more crap. I do, however, understand that need and admire it and envy it--I just don't have it.

6. If you've ever spoken to me in person or on the phone, then you're aware that I suffer from a disease called Interruptitis. I can't control it, and as of yet there is no medication available. Sometimes I'm stricken so severely that I interrupt myself.

7. MommaK knows this one: I cannot/will not eat any sort of lunch meat after it has been opened for two days. Because even if doesn't really smell funny...it smells funny. Gak.

8. I find it very difficult to be affectionate & demonstrative with the people to whom I am the closest.
For example, I've hugged Brian, Rose, Amanda, Chaz, Redneck Diva, Steph, and Nettl with uninhibited delight. However, I rarely hug my best friend Desarea, even though we're very close and I adore her. I rarely hug my mom, my dad, my brother, or my sister (all of whom I grew up with, you know)...but I always hug my bio-dad, stepmom, and their daughter (my youngest sister).
That's bizarre to me.

You know, when I finished this a few minutes ago, I realized that in the rules it does not say that you have to list 8 random facts/habits about yourself. This probably would have been so much more interesting if I'd've listed 8 random things about other people.

Dammit.

Deja Vu

Dear Lindsay,

Who do you think you're fooling? We all know you've only checked into rehab--yet AGAIN--because your lawyers tell you it will look good when you go to court--again.

Because rehab did so much good last time.
Here's a tip: if you don't believe in what you learn in rehab--if you don't make a conscious effort every single day to live what you learn in rehab...it doesn't work. Duh.

With any luck you will get a decent judge and perhaps you can share a cell with Paris and then you and she can be BFF.
Won't that be hot?
Yeah, I thought so.

Dear Lindsay's Mom,

Seriously, shut up. Oh, she's only 20! Oh, she has so many personal and professional issues in her life! Oh, there is "so much pressure on this 20 year old girl"!

waaaaaaaaaah. Poor, poor thing. Because everyone knows that celebrities are the only people in the world who have serious pressure and serious issues and personal and professional problems.

So let's all just keep on enabling, okay? Okay. Yeah.

and in a completely unrelated subject...

Why is it that when I date a man who says he has a great sense of humor...he never gets my jokes?

I can't be me.
.....
.....
.....
.....
Can it?

That is all.
Have a day.

Um..

I was reading the comments on someone's blog today and saw this username:
a teacher who doesn't plagerize

That made me laugh.

Monday Crapola.

first things first...
The podcast is awaiting you:

Come to the MPYR RADIO FORUMS and vote for a featured artist!
Voting is open to all and sundry. I strongly demand! encourage you to vote for my favorite, Bob Gentry.
Angie, this means you. :D

It's amusing and a little bit flattering to be thought of as "The Competition", especially when you had no idea that you were (nor did you even want to be) on the same playing field.

It's also vaguely insulting for the same reason.

Search Term Of The Week:

"What does Carrie Underwood mean by bathroom polo?"
Oh my dear, dear child. Obviously you have yet to experience this phenomenon--or do they only have condom machines in the bathrooms of the dives bars that you frequent?
You should come here more often, it's occasionally educational.

TOP TEN LIST

NUMBER ONE SIGN THAT YOU'VE GOT PMS:

After thirty minutes of wandering aimlessly about the grocery store, the only thing in your basket is Fruit & Nut Trail Mix (the good kind with sesame sticks), Salt & Vinegar potato chips, microwave brownies, and wine coolers.

Who gives a shit about #s 2-10 anyways.

Bleh.

But how did they know??

I stole this from Finn The Huntress...and damn if this test didn't peg me just right.

Okay boys...any takers? Who wants to be my hat?

Sunday, May 20, 2007

Outwit, Outlast, Outplay...nah.

Double Shot Friday!
A show you don't want to miss...
Great music! Technical difficulties! Me! A call-in conversation with none other than Jeckles of The Shitty Blogs Club!
And there was a spider on me. Gak.

Click here to get your own player.

Do you dare try to challenge for my title? Or is ya skeeeert?
Yella-bellied coward. Go on. You can try to pry the title from my cold, dead hands.

Sign up today. Read the rules.
(seriously, read the rules. They're the best part so far)

One of the rules is "If you think your blog is too cool to be sullied with this kind of silliness, don't sign up."

I just wanted to add that if you think your blog is too cool for anything...well, perhaps you should let me pull the big stick out of your ass for you and whack you about the head and shoulders with it.
Because that's just sad.

Come on & play...it'll be like a little ray of sunshine in your normal hum-drummery.

MotherTalk Blog Bonanza: Dangerous Boy Friday

**first things first:
TUNE IN tonight at 10pm EST.
Sit back and experience me. Bring booze-it's DOUBLE SHOT night!

It's time once again for a MotherTalk Blog Bonanza! Our topic is brought to us courtesy of the book "Dangerous Book For Boys".

I feel I should preface my post with a couple of things...
First, I have not read the book. YET (I'm waiting for it to arrive). I HAVE read reviews and author interviews, and I think I have a general (very general) understanding of the content. (and anyways this isn't a book review)

In one sense, I think it offers some interesting and entertaining projects and information for children.

But there's always that 'other hand'. I do NOT wish to insult the authors in any way--after all, they are men, therefore they are former boys, and they are writing what they know.

I am a girl. Well, woman now.
So I will write what I know.

See, they've left out a large portion of the population...I'm sure you've figured out which portion by now. I certainly hope the authors did not mean to imply in any way that girls wouldn't enjoy
A. Reading this book
and
B. Enjoying the activities contained therein.
I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt--since I haven't read more than an excerpt or two yet.

I did take a bit of exception to a portion of an author interview which stated, "The book is often bought by fathers, of course."
Perhaps things work a little differently in the UK, but it's been my experience that about 7 times out of 10 it is MOM doing the shopping, MOM being more likely to purchase a book for a child.
In my humble opinion, the authors would have been better served calling the book "Dangerous Book For Children".
But that's just me.

On with the Blog Bonanza!

I have a trampoline in my backyard. It has no safety fence thingy.
A friend of mine once asked, "Don't you want your children to be as safe as they possibly can??"
Well, yeah...but...

When I learned to rollerskate, I had metal skates that fit on over my shoes. I had no knee pads, no elbow pads, and certainly no helmet.
Same goes for when I learned to ride a bike.
Boys and girls played touch football together in the yard at dusk, usually with bare feet.
We explored the woods around us, plus all the little creeks and streams that cottonmouth snakes called home.
We caught ringneck snakes and lizards, crawfish and grasshoppers--the 'hoppers we used when we went fishin' in those creeks and streams.
We had bottlecap collections--we found them anywhere, everywhere, and used sometimes rusty nails to pin the caps to a plank of wood.
We walked barefoot on gravel driveways, we got fish hooks caught in our fingers and feet. We got ticks in our heads that our parents pulled out with little fanfare. Since we were mostly barefoot, we got stickers in our feet and learned to yank them out quick without hollerin'.
When I played softball, we had sliding practices. We learned to slide on the side; we learned to slide head-first.
We climbed trees and skinned our knees, we built precarious 'houses' in those trees.
We played with hammers and nails, screwdrivers, and wrenches. We dug holes in the yard with shovels.
We camped out in the back yard. We used a sterno stove to cook dinner and breakfast when we camped out.
It was never too hot to ride bikes.

Until I became a mother myself, I never understood or appreciated how my parents must have felt.
My instinct is to shelter, to over-protect...and I fight myself constantly so that I do not stifle my children. I freely admit that it's been one of the hardest things for me to do--back off & let them experience.

My cousin Sharon started teaching me to ride horses when I was young. They had a big white mare named Silver, and she (Sharon, that is, not Silver) and I rode double on a roomy western-style saddle.
No helmet. No fancy boots or jodhpurs. Once I was even wearing sandals whilst we were riding.
Last summer my daughter was learning to ride on a Shetland pony. She wore boots and jeans...no helmet.
One day the horse spooked and ran under a tree to scrape my kid off--and my daughter ended up with about 10 staples in the top of her scalp (you can read about it & see the pics).

As much as I wanted to forbid the riding of the horses after that...I didn't.
She (literally) got back up on the horse.

Kids get hurt. Accidents happen. Sad but true.

Of course we want to spare our children the pain...but how will they learn to live through it, deal with it, if we never let them experience?

I always had scrapes and bruises and contusions growing up, every finger and thumb jammed at some point (which my dad would yank back out), with a fractured wrist and a chipped bone in my middle finger (no, I wasn't flipping someone the bird at the time, it's a much more embarrassing story than that), a severely sprained ankle (3 times), cracked tailbone, and heaven knows what else--because I was experiencing life. I was playing ball and playing with friends and exploring and biking and running and climbing and skating and collecting and having fun.

I don't want my kids to suffer any of the painful things. But I'm not going to interfere too much, either.

As much as I loveloveLOVE to read, I just didn't spend much time indoors, especially during the summer. Mothers would shoo us outside with a popsicle or a cold drink and tell us to "Go play. Stay out of trouble."

That's why I wonder how those children (my generation) became parents who buy their children every electronic device known to man and let them sit around in a vegetative state in front of the TV. With video games, computers, whatever.
How did we get to this?

That's where I think the book Dangerous Book For Boys can play a useful part--with ALL children and parents--helLO, single mom here! No father/son thing...it's a mother/daughter/son groove.
The book tells of simple activities, like how to skip stones and make paper hats & paper airplanes, as well as more adventurous activities like making a bow & arrow or a go-cart. The book tells interesting historical stories (girls like history too!), teaches navigation and how to play poker.

Luckily, I'm a groovy mom & taught my daughter how to play Blackjack years ago. We've moved on to Texas Hold 'Em.

Is this all that's left?? Please, say it ain't so.

I really shouldn't make fun of people. Really.
I know. I can't help it, though. I'm mean and nasty that way.

Hi
I have a great sense of humo & a warm personality easy going ,honest, sincere and loyal. (what the hell is humo?)
I believe in alway's treatins people the same I would won't to be treated. (there's just SO MUCH WRONG with that that it paralyzes me)
I like meeting and makeing new friend's. I'm not real big on the night club seen (you don't like to be seen at nightclubs? What?)
but I do like to go out and have a good time.
I like out door's ,going to movie's, concert, live music, comedy, sooner, and the blazer. (The blazer? Do you have some sort of special jacket? Should we be calling it The Blazer?)(those damn pesky apostrophes! Look how they just keep jumping in there!)
But a peaceful evening at home sharing is also nice. (at this point I'm a little frightened of what you want to share)
I think romance come from the heart and mine. (from the heart? Do you keep it wrapped in The Blazer?)
Moonlight picknit , sun set and rise, soft music, candle lite dinners. (OOOH, my favorite pastime--PICKING NITS AT MOONLIGHT! SCORE!)

How did this dude get my email?
WHY ME?
For crap's sake.

Riddle me this, riddle me that...

Question Of The Day:

How on earth does one single parent attend two fifth grade graduations on the same day, at different schools, when the ceremonies are only an hour apart?

Bah.

Happy Mother's Day!

Happy Mother's Day to all my wonderful friends (this includes the Daddies who pull double-duty).
I wish you the happiest of days.
momcake

Yes, this is really my cake. No, you cannot have it.
But I might be inclined to let you have a small slice.
Hey, it's cake. I'm selfish.

I'm one of the lucky people--I have two moms.
A wonderful mommy, and an equally wonderful step-mommy.
I'd be lost without them.
Thanks, Moms, for all the little things you do.
Like cookie pizza and pineapple upside-down cake on my birthday.
Like loaning me your convertible for a road trip.
Like making me Easter baskets and Valentine's Day baskets and Christmas stockings every year, even though I'm almost 40.

For all the meals you've cooked, for sitting in the bleachers during basketball games with a tube of superglue and my extra pair of glasses at the ready, for sweltering in the stands during all those softball seasons, for squinching your eyes closed and clinging to the door handle with a death-grip when I was learning to drive, for making my curtains, for giving me your last cup of laundry detergent because I was out and I just had to have that skirt washed right now, for these things and a million zillion more...

Thanks. I owe you.
Happy Mother's Day, Moms.

Opening Lines **STICKY NOTE**

This would be the second in a long line of nagging reminders about the upcoming BLOGATHON 2007!

If you check out the right-hand sidebar, you'll see 'Blogathon 2006', wherein you will find a long and distinguished list of my most excellent and generous supporters from last year.

Let's go a little further this year, shall we????
I think we'll start really (begging, bribing) working on pledges on July 1.

Remember how I've already started offering up bribes?
Keep that in mind as you open your hearts & wallets.

NOW.
Here's the part where I need a different kind of help from you.
Last year's blogathon was GREAT fun, but as I got more and more tired, my brain was sluggish and it was very difficult to think of topics to post about.

HOW DO I NEED YOUR HELP? (besides $$, that is)
I need opening lines.
I can't pre-write posts (against the rules, y'know), but I CAN get them ready & jot down bits of ideas.

What I plan to do: Take your opening lines and make a very (VERY) short little tiny paragraph-or-two sized story.

Just think of an opening sentence for me, I'll do the rest.
Ready?
Set....

GO!

Friday, May 11, 2007

TGIF. For many reasons.

Just a reminder...
whilst you're at home tonight (because, like me, you have no life) in your underwear in front of the computer ('fess up, you know you will be)...
then don't forget to come and join the rest of us who are doing the same thing:

Friday Night Live with Monty
Tonight. 10pm Eastern (7pm on the west coast, 9pm in the middle)

Let me entertain you.

**I forgot to mention--CALL ME! Be part of the LIVE show!
206-666-3570 (no, it's not Hell)(although I'm sure there are those who would disagree)

Thursday, May 10, 2007

Junkpile.

Since when do kids graduate from fifth grade??
We graduated from 8th grade and then from 12th.
But fifth?

And what do you buy a fifth grader for a graduation present?

Is there a petition to Governor Terminator floating around out there that is for Paris Hilton going to jail?

Because I would so sign that.

If only to STOP THE MADNESS.

I'd probably sign one for Tom Sizemore too.

One of the drawbacks to getting involved/friendly/lovey-dovey with other bloggers is that sometimes when you really, really want to be honest and release some (righteous) anger, you can't really do it without pointing a finger.
You know, typically I can be quite vague so that no one will say "OH! I KNOW exactly who she's talking about!"...
But sometimes what I'm feeling and want to blow out of my head is focused to a pinpoint and there's no way to hide who I feel is(are) the perpetrator(s).

There are those who have lied, and lied, and lied...and I've got no line of defense.
There are those who have deceived, trash-talked and whored themselves...and I've got no line of defense.
There are those who made public what should have been private...and I chose not to defend myself.

But if I tell you about it, then you'll all know exactly whom (who? I never get that right) to blame.
And my staunchest friends would happily go and defend me...and then a big ugliness would be stirred up and around and above and about and...

And then we'd have all sunk deep, deep, deep into the darkness of "their" level.

But the injustice still burns me, that I can't tell you about it.

And oh yeah, I accidentally drank a moth last night.

I love Mad Libs

Mad Libs is one of my favorite games ever and has been since...well, since I learned what adverbs and adjectives were from Schoolhouse Rock.

When my sister & mom & I play, whoever is reading the story out loud at the end is often laughing too hard to be understood.

I can think of a few of you I'd like to play Mad Libs with.

I'd forgotten about this site:

Subject: The STINKING INSECTS in the CLOSET and Other Business.

From: Mr. OCHRE, BRAIN Supervisor

To: All Employees of ROACH-INFESTED BEAVER Inc.

It has come to my MELTED attention that the CLOSET has been DELICIOUSLY OOZED AROUND with STINKING INSECTS. I am tired of dealing with MOLDY employees and their STINKING INSECTS. The CLOSET is meant for PROSTITUTING. It is not a CIGARETTE room.

On a more INFLAMED note, I would like to SPANK all of you for the DINKY work you all did on the VIOLET COFFEE CUP account. You should all be SLUTTISHLY BURNT.

Also, be sure to welcome FRED, the newest member of the PHLEGM department. They will be a CRUSTY HAMMER to our family.

FRANKLY Yours,

Mr. OCHRE, BRAIN Supervisor.

And they also have this:

Once upon a time there has a young BANK TELLER named MIKE. He was SHAKILY DANCING in the BOOBALICIOUS forest when he met TOBACCO-STAINED JOE, a run-away WAITRESS from the SEASONED Queen DEBI.

MIKE could see that TOBACCO-STAINED JOE was hungry so he reached into his TUPPERWARE BOWL and give him his FUZZY LIVERWURST. TOBACCO-STAINED JOE was thankful for MIKE's LIVERWURST, so he told MIKE a very GAY story about Queen DEBI's daughter JANE. How her mother, the SEASONED Queen DEBI, kept her locked away in a OUTHOUSE protected by a gigantic DODO BIRD, because JANE was so CANDY-COATED.

MIKE BURPED. He vowed to TOBACCO-STAINED JOE the WAITRESS that he would save the CANDY-COATED JANE. He would HUMP the DODO BIRD, and take JANE far away from her evil mother, the SEASONED Queen DEBI, and GIGGLE her.

Then, all of the sudden, there was a MASOCHISTIC TORNADO and TOBACCO-STAINED JOE the WAITRESS began to laugh. With a puff of smoke he turned into the gigantic DODO BIRD from his story. SEASONED Queen DEBI SKATED out from behind a SNOWSHOE and struck MIKE dead. In the far off OUTHOUSE you could hear a HOOT.

THE END.

Please come play with me.
I want to see what you come up with.

Oh yeah...

...almost forgot THIS:

Do I qualify?

Oh sure, they send you this when it's too late.

POSITION:

Mom, Mommy, Mama, Ma
Dad, Daddy, Dada, Pa, Pop

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Long term team players needed for challenging permanent work in an often chaotic environment.
Candidates must possess excellent communication and organizational skills and be willing to work variable hours, which will include evenings, weekends, and frequent 24 hour shifts on call.
Some overnight travel required, including trips to primitive camping sites on rainy weekends and endless sports tournaments in far away cities.
Travel expenses not reimbursed. Ever.
Extensive courier duties also required.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

It is a lifetime position.
Must be willing to be hated, at least temporarily, until someone needs $20.
Must be willing to bite tongue repeatedly.
Must possess the physical stamina of a pack mule and be able to go from zero to 60 mph in three seconds flat just in case this time, the screams from
the backyard are not someone just crying wolf.
Must be willing to face stimulating technical challenges such as small gadget repair, mysteriously sluggish toilets and stuck zippers.
Must screen phone calls, maintain calendars and coordinate production of multiple homework projects.
Must have ability to plan and organize social gatherings for clients of all ages and mental outlooks.
Must be willing to be indispensable one minute an embarrassment the next.
Must handle assembly and product safety testing of a half million cheap, plastic toys and battery operated devices.
Must always hope for the best but be prepared for the worst.
Must assume final, complete accountability for the quality of the end product.
Responsibilities also include floor maintenance and janitorial work throughout the facility.

POSSIBILITY FOR ADVANCEMENT & PROMOTION:

None.

Your job is to remain in the same position for years--without complaining,
constantly retraining and updating your skills so that those in your charge can ultimately surpass you.

PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE:

None required (unfortunately, in many cases).
On-the-job training offered on a continually exhausting basis.

WAGES AND COMPENSATION:

Get this! You pay them--offering frequent raises and bonuses.
A balloon payment is due when they turn 18 because of the assumption that college will help them become financially independent.
When you die, you give them whatever you have left.
The oddest thing about this reverse-salary scheme is that you actually enjoy it and wish you could only do more.
I know, sounds crazy, doesn't it?

BENEFITS:

While no health or dental insurance, no pension, no tuition reimbursement, no paid holidays and no stock options are offered--this job supplies limitless opportunities for personal growth and (more importantly) free hugs and kisses for life if you play your cards right.

Thanks to my friend Jen for brightening my email with that little gem

Or you could just do what I do and let the dogs raise 'em.
Hey, they're housebroken.

....

I think I just peed my pants a little.

I found THIS SITE
where I can WATCH BUFFY TO MY HEART'S CONTENT (well, at least through Season 5).
Anytime I want.

This is like a little slice of heaven.
Thank you, cable internet.
Thank you, co.uk.
Thank you, Joss Whedon. I love you.

**UPDATE: THIS IS ALMOST BETTER THAN WINNING THE LOTTERY. I never got past "BU" when I was looking through the list of shows...today I thought I'd check it out.
I CAN WATCH DOCTOR WHO! And FAWLTY TOWERS! And RESCUE ME! And OMG WHOSE LINE IS IT ANYWAY!
I think I'm feeling a little faint...too much...overload...dizzy...have to lie down...

That is all--I've got to get back to season 2, ep 1.
I'm watching in order, you see.

Have a day.

Nice

10pm Eastern. Tonight.
FRIDAY NIGHT LIVE WITH MONTY
Tune it in. I double-dog dare ya.

Faulty Memory

ME: "I think I'd like to marry Jack Reacher. 'Cause he can do stuff. He knows stuff."

MOM (dreamily): "Yeah, I'd like to have Jack for a son-in-law...we'd have a LOT more family dinners."

ME: "Except he's such a loner. He's always walking off alone at the end, down some deserted stretch of highway...like that guy on that show? You know the one with the Carradine brother?
That kung-fu show? Crap, what was it called, I can't think of it..."

MOM: "Kung-Fu".

ME: "Oh."

I thought this was sort of groovy...

The (Inter)View...

Jules is puttin' the screws to me.
(No, pervert, she's not SCREWING me, she's interrogating interviewing)

So you know that interview meme thing that's going around?
So you know how I hop on every bandwagon that's going around?
This is the result.
Thanks, Jules!
I think the rules say that if you want me to pass this on to you, just leave a comment saying that you want to be interviewed.
(And really? It won't hurt my feelings if you don't want me to ask you any questions, I'm not really that imaginative)

1. You've just been chosen as Miss America. What debauchery from your past is going to come back and bite you in the ass?
Well, there are many answers to this question, but what immediately springs to mind is the (potential)threesome drunken peach margarita weekend at your house.
So you won't be winning Miss America either, missy.
(and P.S. I would've been taken out of the running during the swimsuit competition, unless they judge on the prettiest muu-muu)

2.You can only choose one. Sonic Cherry Coke (Crack) or the Man of Your Dreams? Which one and why?
See, if the choice would have been Man Of My Dreams or CHEDDAR PEPPERS, it would've been so much easier. Now I have to think about it.
....
....
....
....
....
Okay, I'm going with the Cherry Coke. Why? Because I can get half-price refills, as many as I want. Cherry Coke cools me when it's hot outside, refreshes me when I'm thirsty, and it doesn't lay claim to the remote. I can throw Cherry Coke away when I'm finished with it, and there are no hard feelings or shouting matches or tears (well, sometimes Cherry Coke cries a little bit). I can push Cherry Coke around if I want to; I am the boss of Cherry Coke. I can drink it as fast or as slowly as I want, and Cherry Coke never complains.
Plus? My dreams are usually nightmares, so I sure as hell don't want that faceless hunchbacked guy in the spangled cape and four inch strappy stilettos.

3. If you could design the perfect man, what would he look like? (not necessarily appearance, but characteristics?)
He'd probably look a lot like Cherry Coke.

4. How many licks DOES it take to get to the center of a Tootsie Roll Tootsie Pop?
Really, that all depends on how sexy I'm feeling.
OH, you mean a real tootsie roll pop.
One, two, three...*crunch*
Three.

5. Aside from the obvious prestige, what do you gain out of our friendship?
Well hell, you took my answer--prestige is what I would've said, because I get to hang around with one of the cool kids.
AND not to mention a place to get drunk and crash when I visit TexAss. *teehee, just kiddin', Texans*
AND the most awesome Chinese food and the special hot guacamole. :)
Seriously, I gain support and love and fun and a wonderful, strong, fabulous friend.
I love you. xoxoxoxoxox

April has been a spectacular month for me...

Wowwowwow.
How do I say thank you?

MommaK and Lindsay created, over a year ago, the Perfect Post Award.

The object is for you, as readers, to let those lovely ladies know every single month when you find that one special post that speaks to your heart...whether it makes you laugh or sing, cry or just feel.

Then? You get to spread the joy by giving out an award to that person.
Makes THEM feel special and happy, which should make you feel special and happy.

Today? I feel special and happy. And quite honored, especially since it was the deliciously delightful MommaK herself who offered me this:

The Original Perfect Post Awards – April 2007

...for my Blog Bonanza 'Fearless Friday' post

I'm so amazed...delighted that what happens to come from my head and my heart speaks to someone else's.

Thank you, thank you so much. I love you.
